Woman killed due to garbage dispute

ORMOC CITY- Garbage could kill. This was proven true in an incident in Barangay Dolores, this city, when a man killed his neighbor, a woman, who reprimanded him for throwing his wastes improperly.

Avelino Cimafranca, 51, used a “sanggot” in hacking to death his victim, Ruth Montemor last July 30 at around 7 a.m. when they engaged in an intense argument over the garbage issue.

Montemor, 48, was declared dead on arrival at the Ormoc District Hospital.

The two are neighbors in a barracks in a private compound in Brgy. Dolores, this city.

Based on police reports at Station 1, the suspect apparently lost his temper when Montemor kept on shouting after he confronted her for habitually throwing garbage at the vicinity of his quarter.

When she continued mouthing him despite his request to shut up, he pulled his “sanggot” and hacked her several times hitting both her arms.  She tried to escape but Cimafranca was able to pull her hair and slashed her neck. 

The suspect immediately surrendered to Police Station 1 where he is currently detained.  Cimafranca is from Montebello, Kananga, Leyte and works as a watchman in the city’s construction company while victim Montemor is from Matag-ob, Leyte and stays with her husband who is a co-worker of the suspect. 

The police authorities said a murder case is being prepared against Cimafranca.
