THE Gilas Pilipinas squad survived a scrappy third quarter game to score a victory at the start of its campaign in the 2014 Fiba Asia Cup tournament in Wuhan, Hubei, China yesterday.
Rain or Shine star guard Paul Lee, who carried the name Paul John Dalistan in his passport, led Gilas to victory after scoring 18 points and four assists, including two triples in the fourth period – the first that tied the game at 50-all at 9:45 mark and the second that gave the Filipinos the lead, 62-54, at the final 5:29.
Three of Lee’s assists were also important in the fourth period with the first one setting up Ranidel de Ocampo’s triple, which gave the Philippines the lead for good, 57-54.
